How the Left Practices Equality and What They Think About You
The left talks about equality and of course they have their entire ideology defined by fairness, multiculturalism, and inclusion. Yet, like any group that thinks they are smarter than the rest of us and thus should be the arbiter of societal interactions, they often become infatuated with themselves.
Once case in point is that Democratic staffers insisted that members of a fact finding mission get inoculated before they visit a NASCAR race. Oh My God. Imagine the liberal establishment walking among the great unwashed outside of the Washington beltway.
The House Homeland Security Committee planned a fact-finding trip about public health preparedness at mass gatherings and decided to conduct the research at two of the nation's most heavily attended sporting events, NASCAR's Bank of America 500 event this weekend and the UAW-Ford 500 last weekend.
Staff who organized the trips advised the NASCAR-bound aides to get a range of vaccines before attending -- hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria and influenza.
Rep. Robin Hayes, a Republican from Concord, took umbrage when he heard about it.
"I have never heard of immunizations for domestic travel, and as the representative for Concord, N.C., I feel compelled to ask why the heck the committee feels that immunizations are needed to travel to my hometown," Hayes said in an Oct. 5 letter to Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., who chairs the Homeland Security panel. Read the entire story.
In Britain, the Labor Party, the standard bearer of English socialism declared in essence that MPs were better than their staff. It is amazing to me that the left in England has criticized the power and privilege of royalty for over a century, yet they expect deference from their peasant staff.
The source of their anger is the diktat from the Commons authorities stipulating that we must give way to Members in the queue for meals, lifts, photocopiers and other facilities at Westminster.
When I first read the memo, which I understand is approved by the Speaker, I didn't quite believe it. This is the 21st Century, not the Victorian days when people were expected to doff their caps to MPs. It has caused a great deal of ill-feeling among staff at the Commons, from secretaries and assistants to the cleaners and security officers, and we are determined to resist it.
We strongly object to Members having priority in the cafeterias, bars, post office, at photocopiers and in lifts.
We all work together at Westminster and I see no reason why our rights should be eroded.
It would never be allowed in any other workplace and it should not be allowed at Parliament, which is supposed to set a good example to the rest of the nation.
We have always accepted that MPs have priority when they have to rush to vote in a division. Of course we give way to them in those circumstances because they are carrying out their democratic duty.
We also stand aside if Members have an important document to copy in the photocopying rooms. But we see no reason why this should be extended to other areas, such as queuing for lunch. Read more....
