 Democrats Undermine American Ally

Only a leftist could do this.  With Venezuela, Ecuador, and Boliva falling under the control of communist inspired leaders, Colombia stands as a beacon of a working democracy, with a successful capitalist system.  So what does the New Left's Patrick Leahy do?  He holds up aid to Colombia.  Only a Democrat that has been inspired the communist propanganda that fuels the New Left's agenda would undermine one of the few allies that the United States has on a continent that is quickly reverting to leftist authoritarism.

So while Columbia is being surrounded by aggressive dictators and leftist sympathsizers, Leahy cuts funds to an emerging democracy fighting a leftist guerilla force.  The value system of the New Left party is simply unbelievable.  It seems that when given a chance, they will vote to undermine American interests around the world.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., is blocking $55 million in aid to Colombia's military over concerns that country's army chief may have collaborated with right-wing militias accused of some of the worst atrocities in Colombia's long-running civil conflict.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice certified on April 4 that Colombia's military was making progress on human rights, clearing the way for the U.S. Congress to release the aid to Colombia's military — equivalent to 25 percent of all annual aid it receives.

But Leahy, who is the chairman of the Senate subcommittee that oversees aid to Colombia, blocked the assistance over concerns that Colombia's military failed to sever ties to the paramilitaries as required by law, said Leahy spokesman David Carle.

Leahy is concerned about a news report linking army chief Gen. Mario Montoya with a top suspected drug trafficker and strongman of the United Self Defense Forces of Colombia, considered a terrorist organization by the United States.  (
