To coincide with General Petraeus's testimony in front of Congress, MoveOn.Org ran a full page ad today smearing the general.

Now, let's go to MoveOn.Org's site where they claim to refute Petraeus's testimony, which of course, they hadn't heard, nor read when this ad was submitted. As proof that the surge is a failure, they quote Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Public Radio, and the Associated Press. Do I even need to state the obvious?

Then, they cite the 9/4 GAO report that had a negative view of progress in Iraq. If Petraeus's testimony is tainted because he is a subordinate of the White House, wouldn't that also make the GAO report biased, as it is an arm of the Congress and funded by Congress? And wouldn't the GAO tell Congress what they wanted to hear to maintain funding?

Next, they link to the NIE report from August as further proof that the surge is failing to produce results. I've read the report, but like Petraeus pointed out today, progress has been made, but much is left to be accomplished. It is simply a common sense appraisal of the situation. Of course, the left keeps moving the benchmarks so that any progress will always look inadequate.

The left is wedded to failure. They have adopted a culture that is effeminate in nature and they plan to show the world that America is weak. They have made up their minds that the U.S. will fail in Iraq. And if they have to impugn the good name of a general whose counter-insurgency background is helping to turn events around in Iraq, they will do that as well.

So to the defeatists, I ask you this. Say we run from Iraq, what then? How will you deal with Islamist state that you created in Iraq? Will we have to send in 500,000 soldiers ten years from now? Also, won't our cowardly retreat from Iraq create more terrorists? Won't the spectacle of a weak America encourage more Muslims to take up arms against the U.S. and attack us?

Tell the nation how you will deal with that?
