Long story short, the place at where I have worked for 24 years is set to go on strike Friday. And having gone through the negotiation process a number of times over the years, this is the first time I truly think that we are going on strike (in 24 years, we have always reached an agreement by now).

Kind of scary, when you've done the same thing for all these years and realize you aren't going to have a job after Friday.

To that end, I've been looking for other jobs. And to be honest, the thought of not having an income leaves me rather sick to my stomach and not up to posting. People who jump from job to job are definitely made of stronger stuff than me.

And some who read this blog may ask, "How can you be so conservative, yet belong to a union?"

That's easy. On foreign policy, on patriotism, on military issues I am conservative. On social and moral issues, I'm conservative, but on economic issues I would like to think I have more in common with the Teddy Roosevelt's of the "true progressive movement" than with modern conservatives who would sell our nation down the river in the name of free trade.

I have no use for politicians or CEO's who think nothing of moving factories abroad. I loathe the new "gilded age" where America's CEO's make tens of millions of dollars while they nickel and dime their workers to death. If companies want to save money, they might want to look at million dollar salaries. Surely they can find someone to do the same job at $500,000.

If anybody needs a hard worker in the Cincinnati area, send me an email at machiavelli@thevirtuousrepublic.com
