Another ICE Bust in Cincinnati
ICE conducted an immigration raid at a suburban home in Northern Kentucky, across the river from Cincinnati.
A Guatemalan and two Mexicans living next to Brinkman were arrested on suspicion of being in the country illegally, ICE spokesman Tim Counts said.
They were among about a dozen immigrants who live in the home on Cherbourg Drive, several neighbors said. Dian Zhou purchased the two-story home two years ago for $225,000, according to the Boone County Property Valuation Administrator.
Each morning a van would pick up the residents at the house and drive them to the Asian Buffet, 7665 Mall Road in Florence, Brinkman said. The van and same driver would drop them off about 11 every night.
"I thought something was going on," Brinkman said.
Zhou Diam is director of the Asian Buffet, according to the Kentucky Secretary of State. Officials confirmed the owner of the Cherbourg Drive home and director of the buffet were the same man. Read more....
So what stands out in this story?
• the owner of the restaurant was obviously abusing these people if they were working from morning to 11 p.m. at night. Does anyone think they were making good enough money to justify those slave-like hours?
• even though the illegals were housed in a nice home in the suburbs, it almost seems to me they were prisoners in some sense. Do you think they could afford transportation?
• the owner of the restaurant was obviously paying substandard wages (was he paying into social security, workman's comp, were the illegals paying local taxes?) and depriving American workers of fair paying jobs.
• were these illegals tested for TB, hepatitis? Obviously they weren't, since they were here illegally. And they were working with food and serving the public.
The moral of the story is that by just looking at this one local case, we find all the things wrong with illegal immigration. It undermines the moral fabric of our society. It feeds the greed of individuals. Local taxes aren't paid. Federal taxes aren't paid. And residents are deprived of fair paying jobs.
